Healthcare Business Intelligence and Analytics

Healthcare, one of the most important mainstays of our society, is constantly facing new challenges. Ever increasing demands regarding the quality of medical services and nursing compete with permanent cost pressures, added to by a human resource shortage.

With Healthcare Business Intelligence and Analytics, we are providing powerful tools and solutions that help hospitals and healthcare groups of all sizes to gain actionable insights from their data.

This allows fact-based decisions to be made more quickly, hidden information to be revealed and services adapted and improved speedily. Always with the aim of relieving healthcare staff of administrative tasks and thus freeing up valuable time for their primary job, namely treating and caring for patients.

In the realisation of projects in the healthcare environment, we make use of CubeServ’s entire portfolio of services and tools.

Expertise and Experience

This portfolio is complemented by our consultants’ extensive experience and expertise in the healthcare sector.

We offer Vismedica ® – from Xantas AG, SAP BW content specially created for hospital requirements, which provides a standardised data model compliant with legal requirements and a reporting solution that is optimised for the German, Austrian and Swiss markets.

We specialise in harmonising complex data and massive data volumes from administrative, medical, nursing and commercial areas – obtained from various source systems – in the SAP Data Warehouse, preparing them, analysing them and visualising them using different tools.

We enable you to make the right decisions for controlling your institution on the basis of that data.

Tool Recommendations

Depending on the requirements for the reporting and the relevant user group, we recommend the use of different visualisation tools.

Particularly for user groups that have to gain insights from ad-hoc analyses, the use of SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office is recommended.

The integration with Microsoft Office products, such as Excel, provides the different departments with extensive analysis options. To mention just one example: Medical Controlling, which focuses on the improvement of the quality of structures, process flows and outcomes of medical service processes.

Various hospital payment systems (such as G-DRG in Germany, Swiss-DRG in Switzerland and LKF in Austria) have a significant influence on a hospital’s revenue situation. That can only be improved by professional coding and documentation of diagnoses and medical services. The drill-down functionality allows the details underlying the coding to be displayed and analysed.

As illustrated in the examples for OP controlling, formatted workbooks with graphics or tables can be set up. Users can display additional dimensions at runtime, such as operating theatre, patient ID, operation number or patient age, as well as form totals or filter the data by certain characteristics

Examples from OP Controlling

SAP Lumira is currently the recommended tool for on-premise dashboard solutions. Through various application components – such as crosstabs, formatted tables, diagrams and geo maps – the different user groups in the healthcare environment are provided with well laid-out informative dashboards, which can also be displayed on mobile devices.

In SAP Analytics Cloud, all analysis functions – including Business Intelligence, Planning and Predictive Analytics – are made available. Depending on the application scenario, but above all the sensitivity and privacy level of the data, data can be replicated in SAP Analytics Cloud or retrieved via a live data connection. In the latter case, the data remains on premise – this is the version used above all for highly sensitive data (such as personal medical data).

For user groups with high requirements regarding contextual visualisation and use of the most current data, SAP Digital Boardroom provides a real-time digital insight into business, administrative and medical data.

Different reporting requirements call for the use of different tools. The SAP Fiori Launchpad provides users with a central entry point for generating the different reports – accessible from any device as a BI or enterprise portal.
Using the analytical tiles developed by CubeServ, the most important key figures can be displayed on the SAP Fiori Launchpad to provide an initial overview. Selecting a tile will bring up the corresponding report – displayed in the respective tool, such as SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office, SAP Lumira or SAP Analytics Cloud.
News tiles are available for displaying content from different RSS feeds to the user quickly and easily.

Think Big – Start Small

Particularly in the healthcare sector, there are many use cases for artificial intelligence, which can be supported by SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).

Once use cases have been identified, we start by accessing file-based data and creating prototypes using open-source products in order to implement various mathematical algorithms and evaluate suitable methods, tools and visualisations. Only once the results have been checked and the available data have been evaluated will these scenarios be mapped in SAC as an integrated solution.

The example on the right involves the use of methods and visualisation options available in SAP Analytics Cloud.

Question: “How do the number of sports accidents and the associated utilisation of my accident & emergency unit develop over time?”

The method used here is a time series analysis, based on representative historic data. The data is split into seasonal and cyclical components and residuals (random components); the forecast values are extrapolated in a time series, which includes a confidence interval.
